On Thursday, May 25th, members of the Nichols Fire Department in Trumbull, Connecticut presented the Connecticut Burn Center at Bridgeport Hospital a check for $2602. Nichols Firefighters raised the funds through sales of St. Patrick’s Day T-shirt to friends and fellow firefighters across the country, some as far away as California.
Pictured accepting the check from Firefighter Joseph Petrino Sr. is Burn Center nurses Claudine Cody and Jonathan Quiles. To the left of Firefighter Petrino is Firefighter Sarah Vitone, pictured in the rear are Nichols Firefighters Nick Marrash, Joe Petrino Jr., Chief Andrew Kingsbury, and Bridgeport Hospital Foundation President Steve Jakab.
As the Memorial Day Weekend approaches, the Nichols Fire Department would like to remind all residents to keep fire safety and burn prevention in mind during their weekend activities. Approximately every 60 seconds someone in the U.S. sustains a burn injury, and on average 8,900 home fires involve a grill or hibachi.
